West Virginia Public Schools Receive Surplus Medical Supplies to Boost Health Education
Posted 05/20/25
In an initiative that bridges pandemic preparedness and future healthcare education, the West Virginia Department of Health’s Center for Threat Preparedness (CTP) recently distributed nearly 20 pallets of surplus medical supplies to classrooms statewide. The supplies, originally stockpiled for COVID-19 response, are now being repurposed to enhance student learning and support public health career exploration.
The donated supplies—ranging from face shields and gowns to clipboards and hand sanitizer—were originally provided by federal partners such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With expiration dates approaching and storage capacity shrinking, the Department of Health sought productive uses for the surplus stock.
